Art Exhibit at Henry D. Moore Library
September 1 - September 30
Jeanne Purcell Vautour (Connecticut and Steuben) will be the September Featured Artist at the Henry D. Moore Library in Steuben. Her show will be available for viewing during library hours. After retirement she was able to pursue her passion for watercolor, a field that had intrigued her since elementary school. She chose the watercolors exhibited in her show because they reflect the Steuben area.
Vautour says “They showcase coastal Maine, subject matter that is vanishing at an alarming rate. As you probably know, it’s harder and harder to find local communities where most of its citizens depend upon the fishing and lobstering industries. Additionally, it’s harder to find the gift of remoteness and seclusion that was once Downeast Maine. Today, this area — once an almost separate country — has been discovered. Even so, Washington County beckons to all who perceive her unspoiled magnificence. The most amazing sunrises, sunsets, rock outcroppings and panoramic ocean views overpower the senses. If you are like me, you can’t get enough of her scenery. The light is magical across every season; the sounds echo forever in one’s ears; and the smells of the ocean mist, balsam and wholesome earth transport us, inspire us, and lift our spirits.”
