COA Summer Institute: Lights, Camera, Bowtie
July 28 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Join Christopher Kimball in conversation with COA trustee Will Thorndike about Kimball’s career in media and cooking as part of College of the Atlantic’s 2021 Summer Institute: Good Food and Food Fights.
“Cooking is about putting food on the table night after night, and there isn’t anything glamorous about it.” So says Christopher Kimball, the man who has built a media empire around recipes, cooking techniques and his favorite neckwear: the bowtie. Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street is a TV show, magazine, radio show, an app, a podcast, and a cooking school. Milk Street Television, in its fourth season, “seeks to transform the way America cooks, and eats.” Kimball speaks with his friend and COA trustee Will Thorndike about his career — from starting Cook’s Magazine when he was 29 years old to the vision of his media center in downtown Boston.
College of the Atlantic’s Summer Institute is a week-long ideas festival that welcomes leaders from around the world to share their expertise and thoughts on the most pressing issues of our time. This year’s theme is Good Food and Food Fights. During the week, we will explore all aspects of food — production, policy, climate change, food justice, hunger, organics, nutrition and the joy of eating and cooking.
All events are free and open to the public, but registration is required. Please note that there is an option to join in person or virtually for every session.
