Courthouse Gallery Fine Art Presents “Christina Thwaites: Magnetic Paintings”
September 9 - October 30
Ellsworth Courthouse Gallery Fine Art is pleased to debut “Christina Thwaites: Magnetic Paintings.” These engaging, interactive magnetic paintings allow the viewer to position the interactive objects within the painting anywhere on the painted surface, thus giving collectors the ability to change the composition and the narrative. The show is on view through Oct. 30, or virtually on the Gallery website at courthousegallery.com. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
For Thwaites, who spent five years developing her magnetic paintings, the process was a new approach to painting that she found addictive, playful and highly challenging. She began making magnetic paintings while raising her two small children at home and was unable to focus on large compositions. The paintings are made from metallic paint and acrylic on a wood board. Thwaites carefully made and selected each individual movable piece so that any person, regardless of artistic skill, could successfully make an engaging composition and communicate something about themselves through their interaction with her work. Thwaites is available to make commissioned magnetic paintings, including large-scale and magnetic murals. Please call the Gallery at 667-6611 for more information.
Courthouse Gallery is located at 6 Court St. in Ellsworth. Fall hours are Monday–Saturday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. For more information, call 667-6611, or visit www.courthousegallery.com.
