Hancock County Relay for Life
On June 4, the Hancock Country Relay for Life will unmask the cure in a Mardi Gras Style Relay for Life event to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life in Hancock County will Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back in honor and memory of cancer patients for the final time at the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School track with the Don Clark Memorial 5K stepping off at 8 a.m. and Relay kicking off at 11 a.m. and continuing until 11 p.m.
In the past 23 years, Hancock County has continued to support the American Cancer
Society however after careful consideration, the Event Leadership Committee has made the difficult decision to discontinue the event. However, we are not going down without a fight this final time.
This year’s event will include the traditional opening ceremony where we honor survivors and caregivers and the luminaria ceremony where we honor who have or are battling cancer and remember those who fought hard.
The opening ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. to accommodate those who may have to work that morning. We are honored to have Cora Fahy as our guest speaker who will talk about her journey through cancer. After we have taken a moment to reflect on our event over the years, we will kick off with the Survivor and Caregiver lap (first line as they say for Mardi Gras) followed by the teams who are there to support the event (second line).
Participants are encouraged to decorate umbrellas so we can march and dance around the track as we celebrate 23 years of supporting our cancer community. There is a special luminaria ceremony scheduled for 9 p.m.
