Jonathan Fisher House Tours
July 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until Thursday, August 26, 2021
The Jonathan Fisher House of Blue Hill has announced that tours of the house will resume for the 2021 season beginning on Saturday, July 17.
Tours will be available on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1-3:30 p.m. at the historic homestead at 44 Mines Road (Route 15 South). After being unable to host tours during 2020 due to the pandemic, the Fisher House is ready to welcome visitors back to see Rev. Jonathan Fisher’s beautiful home and learn all about Blue Hill’s first settled minister.
The house contains survivals from Federal-era New England, including Fisher’s artwork, furniture, extensive library and collection of homemade surveying instruments, as well as the camera obscura that he designed and built. Outside, visitors can enjoy a re-creation of Fisher’s 1820 orchard, incorporating a 200-year-old pear tree.
For the continued safety of all, visitors are required to wear masks while inside the house. Tours will be offered to one household at a time; if a tour is in progress upon arrival, visitors are asked to wait outside, where they will begin their tour being guided through the orchard as well as the barn, which houses Fisher’s cheese press and many of his woodworking tools.
Tours are free of charge, though a suggested $10 donation is welcome. Donations support the continued maintenance of the house and related programming, including major repair and restoration work planned for 2022.
