Puppypalooza Event at SPCA of Hancock County
April 10 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
The SPCA of Hancock County shelter is taking in a total of 10 young dogs from a North Carolina-based rescue organization. The dogs, nine chihuahua-dachshund mixes and one chihuahua-beagle mix, were rescued from a puppy mill down South and are being brought to Maine to find them new homes.
Visitors will have the opportunity to come play with the pups from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, at the SPCA shelter at 141 Bar Harbor Road. You can reserve a 15-minute play date for only $20. All proceeds will go toward the shelter’s Feel Better Fund, which pays for unexpected and urgent medical care for the SPCA’s animals.
The SPCA will also be offering pet nail trims for $10 and microchipping for $30 during this Puppypalooza event. “Famous” Seamus Colby, a Bar Harbor boy who has raised hundreds of dollars for the shelter, will serve as an emcee of the festivities and will also be holding a bake sale.
Adults and children can also have their photo taken with Bumblebee, the popular character from the blockbuster “Transformers” franchise.
In addition, the SPCA will be accepting donations of pet food and treats for its community pet food pantry as well as returnable bottles and cans for its monthly bottle drive.
Most of the puppies from North Carolina are already spoken for, but the SPCA will be accepting adoption applications in case any of the adoptions fall through.
Founded in 1907, the SPCA of Hancock County is a nonprofit animal welfare organization that has found new homes for more than 500 dogs and cats last year alone.
