Shaw Institute Webinar Series
July 1 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Shaw Institute has announced that its “Planet in Crisis: Science and Survival” online speaker series will kick off on Wednesday, July 1.
How do we survive rapidly accelerating climate change and what does it mean for Maine? The public is invited to join the conversation July 1 from 6-7 p.m. with Professor Paul Andrew Mayewski, Ph.D., director of the Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine, who is a world-renowned climate scientist, explorer and author of “Journey Into Climate” and “Ice Chronicles.”
“The Arctic, Maine and the First Abrupt Climate Change in the Modern Era” is the first in a series of webinars in the speaker series. As Arctic ice melt transforms the Northern Hemisphere climate, how do we prepare for violent storms, flooding, sea level rise, extreme heat, drought, and wildfires? Mayewski brings decades of experience to warn of the dangers ahead and suggest ways we can mitigate the damage.
