“Shop Talk” Open Gardens Event in Surry
July 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
For the third in its series of “Shop talk” Open Gardens 2022, the Surry Garden Club will host a visit to “Sansui,” a private garden at 50 Decorum Road in Surry on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. The rain date is Sunday, July 31.
Memories of Kyoto still inspire Yasuyuki and Donna Tamaki as they enhance the natural beauty of their backyard on Toddy Pond. “Amateurs going on instinct,” they seek what works in our climate and, most importantly, what’s easy. Glacial stones form the backbone for plantings of azalea, Chinese bellflowers, maple and anemone. Moss-lined paths wind their way to a view of Blue Hill Mountain. With the art of “Shakkei” or “borrowed landscape”, mountain “山” and water “水” – where fragrant water lilies bloom before noon – become part of this serene garden.
A walking stick may be useful for uneven ground on the trails. Admission is free and all welcome.
For info on parking near the garden or to reserve a spot, please call or text Marie at 460-1959.
