SW Harbor Library Exhibit: Paintings and Porcelain
Monday, November 1, 2021 - Tuesday, November 30, 2021
The Southwest Harbor Public Library is hosting a November show of Plein Air Painters of Acadia’s work, featuring recent oils, acrylics and watercolors, and Christine Dentremont’s porcelain sea urchins and other sea life. Paintings and porcelain are for sale with a portion of the sales benefiting the library.
Plein Air Painters of Acadia, PAPA, is a group of oil, acrylic and watercolor painters who gather at a scenic place on MDI several times per week. Our goal is to share the love of painting out-of-doors and to offer encouragement to each other as we progress through our work. This season, our leader Linda Rowell-Kelley moved to Midcoast Maine. As a result of Linda’s move, the continuing pandemic and the very crowded island we met in smaller groups and sometimes painted alone. We have a page, Plein Air Painters of Acadia – PAPA, on Facebook which shows more of our work and current shows.
As an artist trained in industrial design, Christine Dentremont views the environment simultaneously in terms of aesthetics and function.
Christine’s work has appeared at the Wayne (Pennsylvania) Art Center’s 15th Annual International Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Craft; and Belfast, Maine’s ECO-Motion and Clifford Gallery at Waterfall Arts. In March 2015, Christine was honored to be named the Maine Arts Commission’s 2015 Functional Craft Arts Fellow. Last winter Christine made the move from Swan’s Island to the big island of Mount Desert, and she is thankful to share her work here in Southwest Harbor. Find out more about Christine at https://www.theartofcraftingdesign.com/.
Painters who will be featured in the show are Margaret Beaulieu, Bev Bono, Katherine Noble Churchill, Leigh Culver, Liz Cutler, Janet Elvidge, Jean E. Forbes, Maggie Johnston, Linda Rowell-Kelley, Roxane Scherer, Marion Smith and Vicky Smith. There will be no show opening.
The show will open on Nov. 1 and close on Nov. 30. The show will be open for viewing during library hours. Call the library for more details or for questions, 244-7065.
