Talk by Linda Greenlaw in Milbridge
July 14 @ 6:30 pm
Gateway Milbridge and Petit Manan Yacht Club will host Linda Greenlaw for a free public speaking engagement at the Milbridge Elementary School on Thursday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m.
Greenlaw, America’s only female swordfishing captain, first came to the public’s attention in Sebastian Junger’s The Perfect Storm. Greenlaw was the captain of the Hannah Boden in October 1991 when Andrea Gail sank in the Atlantic in the 1991 Perfect Storm. Greenlaw’s efforts to warn the Andrea Gail about the impending storm were portrayed in Sebastian Junger’s 1997 book “The Perfect Storm” and in the movie version, in which she was played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
To reintroduce you to Linda and her early story, Petit Manan Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Henry D. Moore Library in Steuben, will be showing the film “The Perfect Storm” on July 7 at 6 p.m. at the library in Steuben. Greenlaw was featured in both the novel and the movie and is believed to have had the last communication with the crew of the Andrea Gail before the boat sank in the storm. Seating will be limited.
