Present employment: Cancer patient navigator – Healthy Acadia
Highest level of education completed: Graduate school (MBA from SMU-Dallas)
Previous elected public office(s) held: Mayor of Calais (four years); Calais city councilor (nine years)
Challenges include dealing with bills not passed or vetoed by the previous governor and legislators. I would work to prioritize the bills to be resubmitted, such as LD812 “Resolve, to establish a Pilot Project To Save Lives and Support People with Substance Use Disorder in Washington County.”
Important issues include making fiscally responsible decisions on budgets: Finding funding for the Medicare expansion as approved by the voters in 2017, restoring revenue sharing to 5 percent for property tax relief for our towns/cities, funding schools at the full 55 percent passed by Maine voters in 2003 and finding funding to reopen the Downeast Correctional Facility in Machiasport (Washington County) or funds (using the $10 million bond monies set aside for the project) to build the Pre-Release Center in Washington County, which was included in legislation approved in 2016.
If elected, I will work hard to gather all the facts regarding the issues at hand and work “across the aisle” in a nonpartisan climate to work on these issues together!
