Our cost of living is 11 percent higher than the national average, our energy costs are 12 percent higher, health care is 25 percent more and we spend 13 percent more of our personal income on public education compared to the national average. We also pay higher taxes to support the higher-than-average state spending.

We have an out-of-control referendum process. The opiate crisis is affecting all age groups and it is killing a Mainer every day. Employers are facing the challenges of finding employees for skilled and unskilled job openings. We have to reduce costs for Maine families and businesses.

The only way to solve these issues and others is to let go of party politics and get to work and bring some common sense back to Augusta. If the current path Maine is on doesn’t change, Maine families, and especially our elderly, are going to have an even tougher time making ends meet and we will never get our young people to stay in the state or bring talented people into our state.
