I’ve spent the last several months asking residents of Hancock County their top concerns. The major responses are: building a stronger economy, decreasing the cost of health care and energy, battling the opiate crisis, investing in education and protecting our environment.
But perhaps the most resounding sentiment is that people are tired of the divisive political climate. They want legislators who listen to their constituency — not political parties.
Fostering civility in Augusta is central to accomplishing anything in the years ahead. I’ve been proud of my record of working across the aisle to do what’s best for our district.
- Economy. I successfully passed an R&D bond that helped expand the Jackson Laboratory’s presence in Ellsworth. Continuing these investments will create good-paying jobs and attract/keep our young people in Maine. I’ll continue to work with small businesses to identify and eliminate needless red tape.
- Explore all options to lower health care and energy costs for individuals and businesses.
- Invest in early childhood education, support our teachers and improve access to technical and postsecondary schools to train and build our workforce.
- Expand opiate treatment investments, drug courts and public health nurses.
I hope to earn your vote in November.
