I’ve always had a fascination with the law, and have been practicing here in Hancock County for two decades. I practiced in probate court before being elected judge, and I ran in 2014 because I wanted to continue the great work Judge Jim Patterson did.

I think the most important issue is making sure people get the care and quality of services they deserve; and also, that individuals who are protected — who often have other people making decisions for them (such as in conservatorships or guardianships) — are treated fairly and respectfully.

What I’ve gained serving as judge of probate over the past four years is a knowledge that families really do care about each other, and generally are really looking out for the best interests. Even among conflict, there’s still a lot of common ground and interests.

I have a strong background with relation to child protective cases that often led to cases in probate court. And so it’s a lot of the same issues you’re dealing with in probate court, such as making sure they’ve got a safe place to live and call home.

Lastly, I’ve got a great staff — they help a lot and keep things running smoothly.
