I am running because Maine needs more elected representatives who will put working class people at the center of our economic growth and recovery. We face enormous challenges, and we need progressive, responsive lawmakers in Augusta. Maine’s science-based response to COVID-19 has kept our infection rates at some of the lowest in the nation. The next Legislature will have the difficult task of navigating our state through a world-wide recession and helping Maine’s laborers, fishermen, farmers, and small businesses through these difficult times. We must work toward guaranteeing quality affordable healthcare for all Mainers, fully funding education, and investing heavily in our roads, bridges, and marine infrastructure. We must also take bold action to combat climate change – the biggest threat to our existence the world has ever faced. To do so, we must transform our energy economy away from fossil fuels toward clean energy and energy efficiency. I support and applaud the work of the Maine Climate Council. We must also be willing to actively combat racism is all its forms. I support the recent recommendations the Permanent Commission on the Status of Racial, Indigenous and Maine Tribal Populations make combating racial injustice a top priority of the Legislature.
